BArnet Finals of Speak-Out Challenge
On Thursday 24 January, St. James' was proudly represented at the Jack Petchey Speak-Out Challenge Regional Final by Year 10 Student, Danial Boules.
The Speak-Out Challenge aims to provide students with the opportunity to speak their mind in an open forum, whilst gaining the essential skills needed to speak in public. 30 Year 10 students had undertaken a day's training with the local Speak-Out representative and, in a highly competitive assembly, this number was whittled down to just one.
Danial's mature speech on the importance of humour in combating the stresses that young men feel was judged by the English department to be the most thought provoking in a collection of speeches that ranged from video games to mental health. On the night, Danial confidently displayed his cunning wit and dry sense of humour in a speech that many in the crowd found to be extremely entertaining.
Although Danial wasn't selected to represent the borough of Barnet as a whole, he came away from the evening with a real sense of accomplishment. St. James' looks forward to sending many more students to the Regional finals in the future and is proud to be a part of Jack Petchey's legacy.
