Why do we set home learning?

Home learning supports the taught curriculum through consolidation, deepening and practice. Having a structured home learning system promotes the habit of independent learning which is fundamental to success at further study.

How will home learning be set?

Home learning length and challenge increases over KS3 to prepare our pupils for their GCSEs and A-Levels. Each subject has an indicative length, based on how many lessons a week they have, to build towards this goal. We know that if pupils spend this time on home learning every night, they will make fantastic progress and be well prepared to excel at their exams. All home learning will be set on Google Classroom with parent workshops delivered to help you support your child with this.

How will this work be marked?

All home learning will receive some form of checking for both understanding and completion. Your child’s teacher will focus on the most important part of the task for your child’s understanding and use peer and self assessment to ensure your child understands it. This will also support your child in preparing for their formative (teacher marked tasks) and summative assessment (our formal exam periods). Students are given a central home learning time table to map out their time across the week.

How to support your child at home

We would like you to  support your child to establish good study habits.

Please ensure they have a dedicated  space and are completing work at a suitable time of the day.  Check to ensure they are completing their homework and encourage them to read.
